Lance Armstrong Explains It All To You
When challenged that his latest bit of wisdom was from Snoopy the Dog, “reluctant messiah” Donald Shimoda
shrugged it off, “I quote the truth wherever I find it.”
In that vein, if you have ever been tempted to quit, then enjoy this bit of Lance Armstrong’s real-life, snap-out-of-it wisdom from, of all things, the film Dodgeball:
Lance Armstrong : “Quit? You know, once I was thinking of quitting when I was diagnosed with brain, lung and testicular cancer all at the same time.
But with the love and support of my friends and family, I got back on the bike and won the Tour de France five times in a row. [Ultimately 7 times! - the editor]
But I’m sure you have a good reason to quit. So what are you dying of that’s keeping you from the finals?”
Peter La Fleur : “Right now it feels a little bit like… shame.”
Lance Armstrong : “Well, I guess if a person never quit when the going got tough, they wouldn’t anything to regret for the rest of their life. Well good luck to you Peter. I’m sure this decision won’t haunt you forever.”
I have this quote set up as a periodic mental reminder in Outlook. I figure if Armstrong never had a good reason to quit, I certainly didn’t.
And you know what? It works.
