Letter To The New Info-Product Creator - Part 2

In Part 1 I told you about a guy with one of the most promising product ideas I’ve heard in a long  time.

But he suffers from “failure to get started” syndrome and it’s going to be a VERY costly mistake . . . for him.

Unless he starts taking MASSIVE ACTION to overcome the mental inertia keeping him in a miserable 9-5.

And since what he email below is pretty indicative of a first-time info-product creator and what it takes to bring it to market, I thought I’d share it with you.

    So I pinged him for a progress update and this was his response . . . nearly 3 weeks later! Ai-yi-yi . . .

“Don’t pay the ransom, i got away!!!!

    Walter,

I have been shamefully dragging at my task, I was unable to

take this on by using a recording device, so, i have taken to

putting my thoughts down in the form of a word doc.I have about 3

pages of a rough draft started. I really struggle with the thought

of the marketability of such a presentation. i keep thinking to

myself that this is the sort of article one may find in a trade

newspaper or such. Maybe I should think more of leaving

the selling part to you? I continue to ask myself, who would pay

    for this?

I will finally give myself a deadline of April 30th to meet

with you with my content. You asked me to figure out what is hot

right now, & besides [product-specific info removed]

have been a major focus of late. ..

The last time we briefly met you said,” pictures are always a plus”, so

    I will assemble some also.

Do you have an example of a presentation which was

marketed with some success….on any subject, that i could go over

to get a feel for what a . .polished product would look like?

Thanks for your patience to this point.

    regards, [name withheld]“

    =========================================================

Poor guy. I’ve done everything I can to make this easy for him and he’s still tripping over his own mental shoelaces.

Here’s what I wrote back. The carets indicate a clip of something “Bob” said and immediately following his clip is my direct response to it:

    > I really struggle with the thought of the marketability of such a presentation. i keep thinking to myself that this is the sort of article one may find in a trade newspaper or such. Maybe I should think more of leaving the selling part to you?

There’s a novel thought (I say, laughing) let the marketing guy worry about the marketing. Sounds like a good idea to me!

Seriously, to the degree that you’ll let me, I’ll train you in how to do this, if you’re interested. You’ve just gotta quit letting weeks go by between communications. Otherwise it’ll be years before we launch, if ever.

    > I continue to ask myself, who would pay for this?

Look, we wouldn’t be even talking about this project if I hadn’t ALREADY done my homework and determined there’s a market for it.

There’s a HUGE, profitable market of people willing to plop down their plastic in order to learn to be proactive instead of reacting to their [removed product data].

There’s a market willing to ultimately pay hundreds of dollars for information products that will ultimately save them tens of thousands of dollars . . . restore peace-of-mind, and keep them out of court, etc.

What I don’t have is the knowledge in YOUR head nor your expertise. What I don’t have is the bandwidth to run it, to do anything other than function as a project manager, copy editor and marketing strategist.

That’s why I want to team up with experts (like you) in their fields, show the promising ones how to market the valuable information laying around in their heads, and then we both make a nice tidy pile of buckaroonies — and then you, you my friend have a skill-set for life that you can go off and market any future products totally independent of me, if you so desire.

Then I have served one of my missions — to help people break free of the workaday grind, slaving away for peanuts.

    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

That’s all for today. Next up, I’m done wasting my time as he moves closer to blowing a one-of-a-kind deal. You don’t want to miss this.
